Description:
  • Zone In or Zone Out?, Trinity Lutheran Church, Brattleboro, VT, November 26, 2023
  •
  • Matthew 24:42 Jesus said, “(K)eep watch…. Be ready…
  •
  • Ever get so absorbed in what you are doing that you are in the “zone”? Jesus taught this – focus on the moment, the day before you: “Give us this day our daily bread.” Be present. Zone in.  Then Jesus counsels to be awake, be alert: “how am I living, what am I doing…” That is zoning out.  In the first case we are absorbed by the now – at the bottom. In the second case we are at the top – looking down at ourselves.
  •
  • Spirituality is a question of finding the balance between the two.  If I am too absorbed by the moment – I become oblivious to those around me. I can be hard to live with.  If I stand back too much and too long, I get owned by my anxieties of all that needs to be done. I can be hard to live with.
  •
  • Finding the balance can be difficult, especially at the Holiday season.
  •
  • Pastor Jon Heydenreich presides, with Jeff Herman May assisting, Lynne Stone as reader, and Marsha Heydenreich on piano.
  •
  • No matter who you are in your walk of faith, or where you are in that journey, you are invited to the communion table at Trinity Lutheran Church. Trinity Lutheran Church is an ELCA congregation, more or less traditional and relaxed, and a Reconciling in Christ congregation where all are welcome.
