Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down, Trinity Lutheran Church, Brattleboro, VT, April 10, 2022 John 12:13 They took palm branches and went out to meet Jesus, shouting, “Hosanna!” Matthew 27:22 The crowd shouted, shouted “Crucify him!” When Jesus came into Jerusalem to celebrate Passover, the crowds spread palms and clothing on the ground. It was an act to honor him. They cried “Hosanna,” – a shout of jubilation. A few days later Pilate presented Jesus to the crowds and gave them a choice. Does he execute Barabbas, a criminal, or does he execute Jesus. And the crowds yelled “Crucify him.” One shout was a hopeful positive and the other was an angry negative. Every day we are shouting either “Hosanna” or we are shouting “Crucify.” We are either celebrating life or bitter about something.
