Description:

On Thursday December 8, 2016 the Windham County Sheriff Office was presented with a check from State Farm Insurance Youth Advisory Board, in the amount of $61,135.00. The presentation was an opportunity to share with the public some exciting news regarding the Enhanced Teen Driver Safety Program (ETDSP).

In 2014 the Windham County Sheriff Office began a project designed to support and enhance the Driver Education programs taught within Windham County. The ETDSP offers teens enrolled in driver education courses the law enforcement prospective. A specially trained deputy coordinates with certified driver education instructors to enhance classroom instruction. The program focuses on highway safety strategies and interpretation of motor vehicle law.

Initially, this program was funded by a grant from State Farm Insurance. In just two years this initiative has experienced significant success as law enforcement and driver education instructors worked collaboratively to provide students with a strong highway safety foundation. This new concept received support from many highway partners throughout Vermont and New England.

This year, the WCSO applied for a National Community Safety and Justice Grant through State Farm Insurance’s Youth Advisory Board. The WCSO proposals was 1 of over 850 applications of which less than 10 percent were funded. The WCSO is proud to announce the Enhanced Teen Driver Safety Program was recognized and awarded 100% funding for all equipment and resources requested. Highlights of this technology and future highway safety initiatives will be discussed during this presentation.

On December 8, 2016, State Farm Insurance representatives, area highway safety leaders, school administrators and students will be present when the WCSO is presented a check in excess of $61,000.00 to purchase advanced technology and resources.

Please attend this presentation as we thank State Farm Insurance, the Youth Advisory Board and our partners for helping the Windham County Sheriff’s Office advance the future of teen highway safety in the state of Vermont.

Questions can be directed to Sheriff Keith Clark or the ETDSP Program Coordinator Deputy Mike Roj at the Windham County Sheriff Office at 802-365-4942.
