Teresita’s Dream – Cuba’s Battle Against Alzheimer’s
Teresita’s Dream is not just a film. It is a call to reimagine global health — and to stand in solidarity with those pushing for solutions against the devastating consequences of the U.S. embargo on Cuba — while humanizing the real-world consequences of U.S. imperialist policy and flipping the script on Cuban innovation.
The film follows the extraordinary story of Dr. Teresita Rodríguez, a trailblazing Cuban scientist who sets out to develop an Alzheimer’s treatment inspired by her mother’s diagnosis, joined by a team of all-women scientists. What begins as an effort to save her mother, leads to a discovery that could change how the world treats this devastating disease. Teresita’s journey unfolds in Havana’s world-class biotech sector amid the challenges of the U.S. embargo—a powerful story of science, care, hope, and resistance.
The film’s Cuban director, Daniel Montero, will zoom in for Q&A. Elisabeth Stevens, an American who directs ‘Americans for Common Sense on Cuba’ will join the discussion. She is focused on medical exchanges with Cuba and can also answer questions about state of US embargo and how it impacts healthcare in Cuba and Americans’ ability to access Cuban produced drugs. WWAC member and co-owner of 118 Elliot, Lissa Weinmann will moderate the discussion.
