Ruck-Up Veterans Outpost Coin Drop 10/18/20

Ruck-Up is a veterans' outreach center stationed out of Keene NH but we service vets from all over New England. Last year alone we worked with 311 vets from Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and even as far north as Maine and as far south as Conneticut. The vets' center was structured and built 10 years ago to be able to do what the Vet Centers used to be able to do. Thirty or fourty years ago when the psychological community was recognizing PTSD and the V.A. was finally recognizing PTSD, you had Vet Centers opening across the country: one of the first here in White River, one of the first in the nation was also out in San Diego. For a long time the Vet Centers were very independent of the V.A. then over time became a part of them. We, similar to other small organizations that are out there like SOLDIER ON, GALLANT FEW, and OPERATION RESILIANT WARRIOR started 10 years ago to try to help fill the gaps. The Outreach Center has three pillars: Outreach, Advocacy, and Peer or Vet to Vet counselling. RUCK-UP receives no federal or state moneys. Everything we do is volunteer. Everything we take in goes out the door helping other vets. Boston Billiards helped us start an outreach program a few years back that let us work with EASTER SEALS, FRENDS OF VETERANS and the local American Legions and VFWs helping keep veterans in housing. We work with SOUTHWEST COMMUNITY SERVICES, or SEVCA in Vermont so vets can stay warm. Advocacy helps work out V.A. claims or Social Security Disability Claims. Most vets don't realize what they are actually eligible for once they leave the service. We hold A.A. meetings. A.G.
