Vermont Truth and Reconciliation Commission – Truth Telling Event 10/25/25
Public Truth-Telling Session – Rutland, October 25
The Vermont Truth and Reconciliation Commission (VTRC) is holding in-person public sessions. These are spaces where Vermonters from communities named in Act 128 can share how state laws or systems have caused them harm. These sessions are about listening to others. They are about honoring truth, and supporting healing, understanding, and accountability. Each session focuses on a specific theme. These themes explore different kids of harm and loss. They center real experiences, including those of people with disabilities. Disability is not a separate topic; it is part of every session.
This session will center on experiences of harm related to spiritual and cultural wellbeing. Truths may include stories about who you are–your culture, language, spirituality, creativity and self-worth, and the pain of having that identity ignored, mocked, and erased.
Community members are invited to attend as witnesses — to listen with care, reflect, and support those who share their truths. Your presence is a powerful way to affirm that Vermont is listening and committed to repair.
