NextEra Energy commissioned 5 GW of renewable energy in 2022 and committed to more. Renewable energy investments in 2022 came to $1.1 trillion worldwide, matching fossil fuels. For 209 of the 210 coal-burning plants in the US, it would be cheaper to retire the plant and build new solar or wind facilites. FERC projects no net growth of any type of fossil fuels, so all the growth we get will be from renewables. And there is more.
