Description:
Painter John Newsom, who curated EXPEDITION, has said that one source of inspiration for the group shows he organizes is Lollapalooza, the groundbreaking festival that transformed the music scene in the 1990s, when Newsom was a student at RISD. In this live Zoom presentation, music historian Theo Cateforis, author of “Are We Not New Wave?: Modern Pop at the Turn of the 1980s” (University of Michigan Press, 2011) and editor of “The Rock History Reader” (Routledge, 2019), will discuss the forces that gave rise to Lollapalooza and its lasting legacy a quarter of a century later. EXPEDITION is on view at Brattleboro Museum & Art Center June 19-October 11, 2021. www.brattleboromuseum.org
