Doormats? July 11, 2021, Trinity Lutheran Church, Brattleboro, VT

Building on last week's message in Mark 6, Pastor Jon delves into what Jesus meant when he told his disciples “If others will not welcome you, leave.” but is is not simply leave, it is leave, shake their dirt from your feet. And he adds, - "as a testimony against them". Contrast this with Jesus' teachings of “Deny yourself,” “Love others,” Turn the other cheek.” How do we reconcile these two opposing teachings?

Today's teaching is this: We are somebody. We are God’s. We are not called to be a doormats.

Trinity is an ELCA congregation (more or less traditional, mainline), and a Reconciling in Christ congregation. No matter who you are in your walk of faith, and no matter where you are in your journey, you are invited to the communion table at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Pastor Jon Heydenreich presides, joined by Kris Grotz-Kuch as assistant minister and Micaela Carlton Newton as reader. Our musician Laura Josephs leads Trinity's choir as they sing together for the time since the pandemic began in March 2020, also for the first time in over a year communion is offered at the altar.
