Description:

The local climate, as well as the Earth’s climate, is an enormous challenge to understand, and one with which scientists are still wrestling.  Mark Breen, heard on VPR’s Eye on the Sky, has spent his professional career tracking and studying the weather and climate.  Mark will use his expertise to discuss the fundamental pieces of climate, and share his thoughts on what we know, what we don’t know, and how that can help with decision-making.  Questions are likely to arise, and he’ll gladly attempt to answer them.

Mark Breen is the senior meteorologist at the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium, and for over 35 years he has been heard on Vermont Public Radio’s an “Eye on the Sky” each weekday morning.  Along with weather forecasting, his work at the Museum involves teaching weather and science, as well as serving as the Associate Planetarium Director in Vermont’s only public planetarium.  He has also written the popular kids book, “The Kid’s Book of Weather Forecasting”, which was awarded the 2010 Louis J. Battan Author’s Award from the American Meteorological Society.

This is part one of four in the Dummerston Conservation Commission's Annual Winter Education Series 'Focus on Weather'.
