Description:

David and Michelle Holzapfel have been wood crafters collectively for over thirty years.  David has served as an artist-in-residence for the Vermont Council on the Arts, and given lectures at the annual Furniture Society and SOFA Chicago conferences. Michelle’s work has been featured in Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery, Yale University Art Gallery, as well as other public and private collections. Both artists utilize portions of trees left behind or overlooked by loggers, honoring the imperfections, richness and personalities of the wood.

David and Michelle exhibited photographs and textiles in addition to their woodwork in the show “Passaggi” at Mitchell Giddings Fine Arts in September and October of 2016; this video features MGFA’s “Artist Talk” with David and Michelle on October 8, 2016, facilitated by Greg Sharrow, folklorist and co-director of the Vermont Folklife Center.
