The fourteenth annual Gilfeather Turnip Festival is held in Wardsboro, Vermont as the major community fundraising event supporting  the town' s public library located in the Gloria Danforth Memorial Building. The Gilfeather Turnip was awarded the great honor of being designated the Vermont State Vegetable this year after two years of lobbying efforts by Wardsboro Elementary School students, their teacher/sponsors, and members of The Friends of Wardsboro Library. Over 40 craft and farmers' market vendors displayed in the town hall and in tents outside the free event. Music was performed by Gene Chain, Tim Robinson, Bad to be Good with Marvin Bentley, and Wardsboro,s own troubadour, Jim Knapp. A quilt made by Carol Steiner was raffled. A history of the festival , and Mr. Glifeather and his turnip was given by Christel --- in the library. Turnips were sold outside the town hall as well as hot turnip soup, the latest , turnip cookbook, etc. The Grand Prize winning Gilfeather turnip was grown by Braiden Pearson.
