From humble beginnings in a small slate roofed village in Greece, to the heyday of America’s movie palaces, “Built to Last” is the story of one family and how they built an empire of theaters throughout New England in the hard-scrabble years of the Great Depression. Their legacy, the Latchis Theatre & Hotel in Brattleboro, still stands as one of three surviving Art Deco buildings in Vermont and remains the center for performing arts and films in the community. The film is told through historically accurate footage, photographs and music from the Latchis family, local historical societies and national archives.
