Description:

Join Compassionate Brattleboroo, Brattleboro local physicians and nurse practitioners for a panel discussion. Speakers will include: Agnes Mikijaniec, NP Oncology; Carolyn Taylor-Olson, MD; Robert Tortolani, and moderator Jim Levinson. Brattleboro voted overwhelming in 2017 to join the Charter of Compassion, and the Selectboard ratified this action setting Compassion as a value of Town Government.  Brattleboro Schools have long had respect and caring as goals of the culture within the school communities and part of what is taught.  How is Compassion understood in public schools and how does it find its way into School Policy and Practices? Superintendent Lyle Holiday and instructional staff from the elementary and high schools will talk about Compassion in our schools with the public at Brooks Memorial Library, Wednesday, May 8th at 6:30 pm.  This event is free and participation from all in the community is welcome and encouraged. How do we understand what Compassion is and what it looks like in our schools and in our town?  How do our children learn to become compassionate, and what are our schools doing to support that growth?  Does self-identifying as a Compassionate Community make the town a better place, and does it make the work of our schools harder or easier?  How can we become a more Compassionate community: what are the biggest opportunities and challenges?  These and related concerns of the community will be explored in a participatory conversation.
