BCTV hosts VT Access Network Annual Meeting
More than 50 public access television staffers and board members gathered in BCTV's Studio for the annual meeting of Vermont Access Network (VAN) on May 1. The day started with a business meeting for the nonprofit, which connects 25 Community Media Centers that together operate 49 local cable channels statewide. According to vermontaccess.net, VAN Members use emerging communications technologies to foster free speech, encourage civic engagement, enhance public discourse, and allow elected officials and community members to communicate better. The afternoon was taken up with vendor presentations and break out groups on topics such as Archiving Best Practices, and "VAN Week," an idea for establishing week-long programming themes.
