Description:

Mitchell • Giddings Fine Arts is pleased to introduce new work by Michele Ratté in "Flower of Time: Affinities", in an artist’s opening and reception Thursday, October 27. The exhibit continues through November 27 with an Artist Talk scheduled for Saturday, November 19 at 5pm.

Michele Ratté’s unique assemblages combine precious metals, drawing, printing, sewing, and sculpture, to create sophisticated works which utilize the alchemical potential of mixed media. For Michele, “Gold is an ultimate material”, and Ratté’s use of gold is a unique signature of her work in A Flower of Time: Affinities. In 2006, Ratté invented a method for permanent gilding onto textiles with master dyer Joan Morris, and was awarded a U.S. patent for this process. With her applications of gold she explores the mutability of light and color, as well as the connections between degradation and regeneration, fragility and strength. In her blending of high karat metals with common and culturally significant materials, such as fishing wire, shoe soles, and refashioned bombshells, Ratté merges land and sea, darkness and light, and draws focus to the transformative and transcendent forces that exist within seemingly dichotomous relationships.

Mitchell • Giddings Fine Arts is a distinctive gallery showcasing contemporary fine art and craft in a variety of media.
